WELL HEY THERE,

I’M ANNIE

I’m a small-town Minnesota author, teacher, pastor’s wife, mom, & gramma with a big passion for sharing the gospel and loving people

I am also very into competitive backyard family whiffle ball, fish tacos, long walks, chickens, and carving out a life for the people I love.

MY EVERYDAY

I think sometimes, people view a pastor and his wife as people who’ve figured it all out, have perfect kids, and have no struggles in life. We go about our days with no worry or care in the world and sit atop our pedestals looking out over our sheep. I’m here to tell you that’s not how it is around here (or anywhere else!). I’ve been married to Doug for 21 years and while we’ve learned how to communicate, fight fair, and embrace one another’s flaws, there are still days we don’t see eye to eye. Sound familiar? Someone once told us that it took them five years to become one with their spouse. What an incredible piece of advice for just starting out in marriage! I used to dream about getting married someday and having kids. Then, they’d get married and give us grand babies. We are here in that stage and I love it! Our life is full of blessing and heartache and I’m here for all of it. I’ve learned that I’ve felt closest to Jesus in the valleys even though the valley isn’t always my favorite. It’s in the valley where you realize that apart from Him, you can do nothing. It’s in the valley that your roots grow deep. It’s in the valley that you find deep and lasting compassion for those around you. But, valleys aren’t made to stay in. Eventually, you have to walk out. I’ve lived in the greatest valley I’ve every experienced in my short life in the last three years. Now, I’m slowly finding my way out. I’ve had to practice what I’ve preached, and have had to be okay with not being okay all the time. Hold on tight as we navigate life together!

MY FAMILY

Whenever someone asks how many kids we have, I always tell them it’s bit complicated. We lost our first baby in a miscarriage. Hallelujah (named by my niece) is in Heaven with Jesus. Then, came Jett, Braelyn, and Deacon. These three kids changed our life in the best way! Then, about six years after Deacon, came our oldest/youngest son, Sondy. He is now happily married to our daughter-in-love, Drea and they have given us three beautiful grandbabies! Now, we’re preparing for the next family member as our son Jett is marrying his sweet Reagan. With each kid, our hearts simply grew. It’s incredible how that happens! Life with Doug and the kids is always an adventure. It’s not always perfect, but man am I grateful!

Finding time for family in this day in age isn’t always easy! Most Sunday evenings call for family supper. Most of the time, you’ll find us eating hotdogs or burgers or take out. I’m not much of a cook, but it’s just more about being together. When we fell real energetic, you’ll find us in the backyard yelling and whooping it up over a game of whiffle ball. Carving out time for your family is always a good idea.
